This is a remodeling project aims to optimize the use of the interior space of the existing church building constructed in 1978. The project scope includes the design of two new offices, one conference room, one toddler room, one kitchen, one administrative staff work area, the sidewalk pavement, as well as the accommodation of the appliances at the second and third floors.
Under a limited budget and the constraint of existing conditions, the theme of the design is to formally represent the church as a body of assembly through a series of wood furniture and partitions. By carefully detailing and dimensioning each piece of material with ergonomic module, all furniture and partition units can be built independently. Each unit is composed by pieces of measured material through the detailing of joints and the usage of hardware. They can be connected and assembled in different configurations. The modular strategy allows the church members to build a large portion of the project by themselves and therefore making the project economical. The Project is an architectural representation of the Christian concept the church as a body of assembly. Each person, each group, each unit of the furniture and partition come together to form the body of the church.
